Harry Styles has made history as the first male cover star to grace the cover of Vogue solo — and he did it all wearing a Gucci jacket and lace-trimmed dress. The cover of Vogue has largely featured women and men who have occasionally appeared alongside them. Harry's cover shoot outfit was very different from his lockdown look which he admits was “sweatpants, constantly."In his Vogue interview, Harry opened up about his style and how he would dress when he was younger. “As a kid, I definitely liked fancy dress,” the "Watermelon Sugar" singer said before reminiscing about a school play where he was cast as a church mouse (how dare they not give our Harry the lead role!). “I was really young, and I wore tights for that,” he recalled. “I remember it was crazy to me that I was wearing a pair of tights. And that was maybe where it all kicked off!”The One Direction star said that clothes are "there to have fun with and experiment with and play with." He said once you take away the idea that there are clothes for men and clothes for women "you open up the arena in which you can play" be removing those barriers."I’ll go in shops sometimes, and I just find myself looking at the women’s clothes thinking they’re amazing," Harry said. "It’s like anything—anytime you’re putting barriers up in your own life, you’re just limiting yourself. There’s so much joy to be had in playing with clothes. I’ve never really thought too much about what it means—it just becomes this extended part of creating something.”

Harry wore a variety of different outfits for his Vogue shoot including a Wales Bonner knitted sweater vest and a kilted skirt and a zoot suit with a hoop skirt from Harris Reed. Harry's "sister from the same womb" Gemma Styles joined her brother at the photoshoot. She talked about her brother's love of clothes, saying, “My mum loved to dress us up. I always hated it, and Harry was always quite into it." She recalled Harry's "little dalmatian-dog outfit" and said that he would spend "an inordinate amount of time wearing that outfit." He revealed that he's been trying to educate himself "so that in 20 years I'm still doing the right things and taking the right steps." Harry said he really believes in karma and he thinks that now is a time where the world could use more kindness and empathy and patience with people, adding "be a little more prepared to listen and grow."[video_embed id='2064017']RELATED: Harry Styles investing in concert venue that could cost upwards of $600 million[/video_embed]Harry has been busy during lockdown but he always makes sure to set time aside to meditate twice a day. "It has changed my life,” he said, “but it’s so subtle. It’s helped me just be more present. I feel like I’m able to enjoy the things that are happening right in front of me, even if it’s food or it’s coffee or it’s being with a friend—or a swim in a really cold pond!” The 26-year-old singer also feels that his meditation practices have helped him get through the very stressful 2020. “Meditation just brings a stillness that has been really beneficial, I think, for my mental health,” he added. The "Adore You" singer celebrated his Vogue cover on Instagram and the magazine also shared a behind-the-scenes video with an impromptu acoustic rendition of “Cherry.”
