Jane Fonda wants people to exercise their glutes, their quads, and their right to vote. The actor and activist pulled her red leotard and matching sweatband out of retirement to encourage Americans to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming presidential election."Hello class, we're bringing back the movement. We need you to be in shape for the upcoming race," says Fonda in the clip, with was released on October 5, the final day to register to vote in many states. “I need you to be strong. I need you to be laser focused. I need you to be fully committed to the task at hand. Let's get ready to exercise our right to vote!"Fonda enlisted a group of her famous friends to help get people pumped up and ready to show their power at the polls, or the mailbox. In-person or on-paper, vote, vote, vote! The 82-year-old Hollywood icon is joined by a cross-section of celebs, including Kerry Washington, Shaq, Ken Jeong, Amy Schumer, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. Perry shared an extended version of Fonda’s video, which shows Washington helping the Fitness Queen keep the participants motivated. As for Perry, the new mom isn’t ready to hit the gym just yet, but still provided support for her fiancé Orlando Bloom by ogling him while enjoying a protein bar.
“Okay so [Orlando Bloom] and I have different views on what it means to get pumped these days but whoever said pumping isn’t a sport... I’d like to twist their nipples clockwise for one week straight,” said Perry, who showed off her breast pump in the voter registration video. Moms are superheroes. “ANYWAY I am going to exercise my right to vote!!!! Especially if [Jane Fonda] says I should. We’re getting in shape for the race of our lives this November and it has never been more important to #ExerciseThatVote.”[video_embed id='2040501']RELATED: Meghan Markle has been cold-calling Americans encouraging them to vote [/video_embed]If you know anything about Jane Fonda, you know this is just her latest project in the decades-long history of her activism. In September, Jane appeared on the Howard Stern show to talk about her new book What Can I Do? My Path From Climate Despair to Activism, which details how she came to her most recent activist pursuit: fighting climate change. Back in October 2019, Fonda began leading weekly Fire Drill Friday protests and the life-long activist told Stern she had originally intended to camp in a tent outside the White House. Her plan was to stay there until the current administration agreed to make the environmental changes desperately needed to help save the earth, but decided against it because of the legal ramifications. “I would have gone to jail permanently, and I didn’t want to do something that would just take me away permanently,” said Fonda.
Fonda’s latest video urging Americans to vote is the second time this year the actor has expertly combined nostalgia and social media to create a call to action. In April, Fonda released a Tik Tok video asking people to join her for virtual Fire Drill Friday protests to continue advocating for climate change during the global pandemic.[video_embed id='-1']BEFORE YOU GO: Paralyzed dog still loves to play fetch [/video_embed]
