If there’s one lighter thing that 2020 may be known for, it’s everyone’s obsession with getting Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston back together—on screen, that is.What started as eagle-eyed viewers looking for signs of romantic hope earlier this year during awards season morphed into one of the most anticipated online moments in recent history: Brad and Jen joining the star-studded Fast Times at Ridgemont High table read. That event, which went down on September 18, definitely didn’t disappoint. Especially when the exes were tasked with recreating the movie’s iconic dream sequence. In the scene, Brad Hamilton (played in the original 1982 film by Judge Reinhold) imagines Linda Barrett (first played by Phoebe Cates) seducing him after climbing out of the swimming pool at his house. It was the perfect little scene for Brad and Jennifer to do together for those who were hoping for some fun, flirty exchanges.“Hi, Brad,” Aniston read. “You know how cute I always thought you were. I think you’re so sexy. Will you come to me?” Of course just like in the movie things end on an awkward note when Brad’s dream is interrupted and he’s found in a… um, compromising position. “Doesn't anybody f-- knock anymore?!” Pitt read, following that moment. The star-studded table read featured many notable faces, including Shia LaBeouf (who went all-out as Spicoli by smoking up a storm), John Legend, Matthew McConaughey, Ray Liotta, Jimmy Kimmel, Julia Roberts, Dane Cook and Sean Penn (who played Spicoli in the original film but tackled the role of pizza delivery guy for these reimagined, online purposes). Morgan Freeman narrated, and the entire event was put together to raise money for the emergency relief nonprofit that Penn founded, called CORE. During the dream sequence part of the read, the camera panned to many of those famous faces, and from the looks of it the celebrities seemed to be as into Brad and Jen’s reunion as the fans. Jimmy Kimmel burst out laughing a couple of times (you decide if it’s over the awkwardness of the two exes reading such a scene or at Freeman’s narration); Roberts had that famous Mona Lisa Smile going on; and at one point McConaughey was nodding his head so fast that you could almost see the words “all right, all right, all right” percolating in a thought-bubble in his head. And as for the fans? They definitely honed in on the Brad and Jen of it all and didn’t even try to contain their enthusiasm online. Even the original Brad Hamilton was into it. One thing is for sure, and that’s that Pitt and Aniston still know how to pander to their fans. The pair have repeatedly said they’re just good friends (plus Brad seems to be invested elsewhere), so a romantic, real-life reunion is pretty unlikely though.Pitt and Aniston were set up by their agents and went on their first date in 1998. They married in 2000 and stayed together for about four more years until Pitt met Jolie while filming Mr. and Mrs. Smith. In January 2005 they officially announced their split in a joint statement, and they finalized their divorce in October of that year. Eventually Pitt married Jolie and Aniston married Justin Theroux, but by 2018 they were both single again. Naturally, fans have been keeping tabs on them ever since.[video_embed id='5121943683001']BEFORE YOU GO: Watch Brad Pitt Morph from 15 to 42-Years-Old [/video_embed]
