Who needs an Oscar when you can walk away with a swag bag worth more than a small mortgage? Marketing company Distinctive Assets stopped by GMA recently to showcase some of the luxe items that are included in this year’s “Everyone Wins” nominee gift bag, a “bag” that goes to all of the nominees in the Oscars' Best Actor/Actress, Best Supporting Actor/Actress, and Best Director categories. It’s a tradition that’s almost two-decades old, and the contents are pretty freaking jaw-dropping.This year there are over 70 products and experiences included, and they range from  bottles of absinthe and tequila to a 12-day cruise worth $78,190. Because even celebs need to kick back with a luxury vacation and a bit of booze after the hubbub surrounding the big show. That’s not all though. This year there’s also a smart bra (wonder what all the male directors will do with that one), gourmet chocolate and maple syrup, two meal kits, personal training sessions, a matchmaking service membership, beauty treatments, a full body rejuvenation, a vape pen, a personal meditation band, and the Exploding Kittens game. It all sounds very Hollywood... save maybe that last item.[video_embed id='1894150']Related: Stylist secrets from the Oscar red carpet[/video_embed]Of course these bags aren’t in any way affiliated with the actual show, and the recipients are taxed on the “fair value” of anything they accept and keep. For several years now that amount is in the six-figure range, with previous gifts including trips to Greece, a 12-night jaunt in Tanzania, and a week-long stay at a spa. This year’s bag is worth approximately $215,000, which is about $5.2 million if you count bags for all 25 nominees. If you can believe it, that’s even more pared down than in years past; in 2016 the bags reached #PeakValue at $230,000.“We are not gifting Oscar nominees out of a sense of philanthropy,” Distinctive Assets founder Lash Fary told Forbes at the time. “We are gifting them for the same reason that they are paid upwards of $20 million for a single film... because their personal brand has value as a commodity.”That value is to the tune of $4,000-$50,000, which is what these brands pay to have their products included. (They’re also on the hook for the gifts themselves.) So what kind of commodities will the like of Tom Hanks, Laura Dern, Cynthia Erivo and double nominee Scarlett Johansson be sent this year? For those keeping track, that’s enough swag to pay for a couple of new cars and put up a hefty down payment on a house. And to think the actual Oscar, which is only gold-plated, is worth a lot less than that ($1, if you count the Academy’s stipulation that if a winner wants to sell their trophy he or she has to offer it back to the organization at that price, first). In the meantime, we regular schmucks can only dream.Oscars coverage begins Feb 9 at 5:30pET on CTV plus follow @etalkctv for Etalk Live from the Oscars Balcony and tune into the 92nd Oscars at 8pET.[video_embed id='1893691']Related: Math whiz shares his secret to correctly predicting Oscar winners[/video_embed]
