Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon are two different people who share the same first name, the same job, and actualy kinda look alike. They're also constantly being mistaken for one another. Somewhere, Dermott Mulroney and Dylan McDermott are giving a synchronized nod of understanding. After years of being the subject of confusion, Kimmel and Fallon got together to clear things up once and for all — and did a terrible, no good, very bad job of it.Kimmel is currently filming his show on location in Brooklyn, just down the street from Fallon’s Tonight Show studio at 30 Rock in Manhattan. Introducing the segment on his Thursday night show, Kimmel said that the video was a long time coming. “People frequently confuse me with someone else, another person, a person who isn’t me,” said Kimmel. “As a public service to me and to the other person, I got in touch with him and we made a video together that will hopefully clear this little headache up once and for all.”
The Jimmys wore matching sweaters for the bit, which included the two men listing their obscure similarities, including the make of their first car, their accidental eye poking of the same woman, and their preferred oatmeal topping (carrots? Really?). Of course, they both also share a deep hatred for Matt Damon. But the kicker came at the end of the video when they decided to investigate their shared traits in the privacy of the bathroom. The tongue in cheek skit had a playful tone, but it should be required viewing before celebrities appear on either host’s TV show. As actor Emma Watson knows firsthand, confusing the Jimmys is not only an easy mistake to make, it’s also a really embarrassing thing to do on TV. That hilarious reoccurring gag when parents tell their kids they ate all their Halloween candy? Yeah, not a Jimmy Fallon sketch.
Fans also have a difficult time telling the two Jimmys apart, with Fallon revealing to his audience earlier this year that after spending 20 minutes with a fan, she excitedly yelled that she had just met Jimmy Kimmel. So close.
And it’s not just the names that make the men easy to confuse with one another. Even Kimmel’s two-year-old daughter Jane has trouble telling Kimmel from Fallon. Everything is Dada, and that includes other late night TV show hosts.
