Get ready to meet the first five teams in 'The Amazing Race Canada: Heroes Edition'

This year, The Amazing Race Canada welcomes a new set of racers to the show for a heroic twist.

Hosted by Olympic gold medalist Jon Montgomery, The Amazing race Canada: Heroes Edition will be comprised of teams featuring teachers, first responders, parents, community leaders, mentors, athletes, and other everyday heroes with a story to tell.

The action-packed show was the most watched Canadian program in the 2016-2017 broadcast year, and this season is sure to deliver the same edge-of-your-seat entertainment we all love.

As of today, CTV has revealed the first five teams.

First we have Joseph and Akash, who are friends and volunteers; both have dedicated their lives to helping others. The two met 10 years ago during high school, where they were both volunteering at a food bank. Joseph and Akash have launched two non-profit organizations together and have travelled to over 20 countries, working in disaster situations in United Nations refugee camps. Both are driven to inspire change and create impact.

Our second team consists of Nancy and Mellisa, two driven athletes. Nancy is a two-time national barrel racing champion who battled cancer four years ago. Mellisa is a three-time Olympian who won the bronze medal in the women's skeleton event at the Turin 2006 Olympic Winter Games. Their background in competitive sport served as a foundation for their friendship.

Siblings Martina and Phil will also be competing on the show. This brother-sister duo share a love for helping children; they have volunteered more than 10,000 hours of their time with kids in Canada, USA, Kenya, South Africa, Korea, and Fiji. These two have that classic love-hate relationship most siblings share, though theirs supposedly tends to run towards extremes.

Courtney and Adam, an engaged couple, are also ready to take on the competition. Both work as first responders, and believe their bond is their winning ticket to success in the race. For both partners, helping others is their passion and they feel blessed to have the jobs they do. The question is, can love truly conquer all?

And finally, we have Taylor and Courtney, who are siblings and Mounties. These two are pretty impressive; they’re fourth generation RCMP hoping to represent and make their fellow officers proud! They are currently stationed in different parts of British Columbia, which means that the close-knit sibling duo don’t see each other nearly as much as they’d like; The Amazing Race Canada is a great chance for them to sneak some sibling bonding in there!

Tune in on July 3rd at 8 p.m. ET for an all-new season on CTV.
