Canadian-Irish coproduction “Room” leads this year’s Canadian Screen Award film nominees, earning 11 including Best Motion Picture, and acting nods for Brie Larson and nine-year-old Vancouver actor Jacob Tremblay.
Other nods for the film, which picked up four Oscar nominations last week, include Best Adapted Screenplay for Emma Donoghue, and Best Supporting Actress for Joan Allen.

Paul Gross’ war film “Hyena Road” follows with eight nominations, while French family epic “Our Loved Ones” (“Les êtres chers”) nabs seven, including Best Picture.

This year there are a record 10 nominees for Best Picture. Joining “Room” and “Our Loved Ones” in the category are “Corbo,” “The Demons” (“Les Démons”), “Felix and Meira,” “The Forbidden Room,” “Remember,” “Sleeping Giant,” “My Internship in Canada” (“Guibord s'en va-t-en guerre”) and the Oscar-nominated “Brooklyn.”
“Brooklyn,” a Canadian-British-Irish coproduction also earned CSA nods for cinematography and original score.
Larson's become an awards show regular this year, in recent weeks winning a Golden Globe and a Critics’ Choice Award for her performance as the mother of a five-year-old son who escape together after being held captive his whole life.

She competes against Leah Goldstein (“Diamond Tongues”), Hadas Yaron (“Felix and Meira”), Karelle Tremblay (“Our Loved Ones”) and Celine Bonnier (“The Passion of Augustine”) for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
After charming the audience as he picked up a Critics' Choice Award this past weekend, her precocious costar Tremblay is up against legendary actor Christopher Plummer (“Remember”), Rossif Sutherland (“River”), Maxim Gaudette (“Our Loved Ones”) and Jasmin Geijo (“The Waiting Room”) for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
Nominees for the 2016 Canadian Screen Awards were announced this morning in Toronto. They will be handed out in a series of gala events, culminating in a televised ceremony hosted by Norm Macdonald on March 13.
