Sources confirmed to Variety Wednesday that Maroon 5 will headline the Halftime Show at Super Bowl LIII on February 3. They also speculate that Cardi B and Travis Scott may make guest appearances. Though NFL reps would not confirm the selection and Maroon 5 has yet to comment, the outlet is standing by its source.

“It’s a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show,” an NFL rep stated, “We are continuing to work with Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show.”

It is likely the NFL will seek out an act with as little controversy attached to it as possible, considering last year’s Justin Timberlake pick sparked a gender and race debate about the “wardrobe malfunction” that negatively impacted Janet Jackson’s career but allowed Timberlake to move on virtually untouched.

The league is also trying desperately to move past the politicization of the sport invoked by players, led by former-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, kneeling in protest of police brutality. The subversive act has since turned into a wider debate over respect for America and the military. Jay-Z rejected an offer to perform last year, supposedly for political reasons.

Since the show is in Atlanta, Georgia, some fans had been hoping that an Atlanta-native would be tapped for the performance. Suggestions include Ludacris, Usher, Future, Outkast and Migos. Others have posited that Taylor Swift should get her chance.

The official announcement of Justin Timberlake as halftime performer did not come until the end of October in 2017.
