Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Party For One’ music video has something for everybody

Carly Rae Jepsen is one of those artists who can fly under the radar for a year and then burst back onto the music scene with something totally incredible (like a music video starring Tom Hanks). It’s been 18 months since Jepsen put new music into the world, and boy is she well worth the wait. “Party For One” is fun, over-the-top, super relatable and will make you feel SEEN.

Knowing Carly, she was of course going to produce a total bop that we could expect to hear played at bars and kids’ birthday parties alike in the coming months. What you might not have expected was a video that college students are going to be writing essays on for its inclusion of countless skin tones, ages, sexualities, gender identities, lifestyles and body types in the span of four minutes and 28 seconds.

Jepsen is joined by an extensive supporting cast of home-alone-dancers, bathtub-eaters, movie-criers, hotel-room-smokers, solo-drinkers and beauty-experimenters of every shade, shape and form. Oh, and one older woman who is so confident in her sexuality, you’ll be yelling “You go, girl!” at your screen.

All that set to a total banger of a song that in itself is infinitely relatable. Whether you’ve just been broken up with, have an unreciprocated crush, are happily single or just want a night in by yourself, “Party For One” is the song for the occasion.

“If you don't care about me, I'll just dance for myself, Back on my beat.”

Oh Carly, you know us all so well.
