Michelle Obama was at the Grammys; Chrissy Teigen was not

The 61st Grammy Awards came out of the gates strong with Michelle Obama making a surprise appearance in all her sparkly post-FLOTUS glory and making good on host Alicia Keys' vision of making the show all about the power of women.

Michelle talked about the important role music has played in her life while she took shoulder to shoulder with prominent female musicians including JLo and Lady Gaga. She also tweeted her love for host Alicia Keys. Girl power!

And everyone else tweeted their love for her.

The stars say I love you

Michelle wasn’t the only one pumped to be at the Grammys. Many artists were genuinely excited to be there and share the love with their fans. Always remember: Shawn Mendes loves you. That’s all we need.

Lookin’ good

Artists also showed off their red carpet looks and some shared sneak peeks on social media. (Ariana Grande wasn’t at the Grammys thanks to some drama, but she was still dressed up).

Bow down to Diana Ross

There’s nothing like a true queen walking out in a giant red ball gown on her 75th birthday to sing her own musical tribute after being introduced by her adorable, and surprisingly poised, grandson Raif Henok Emmanual Kendrick. Everyone (everyone!) was totally blown away by Diana Ross.

Congrats guys!

And everyone, of course, was super gracious whether they were winning, losing or just watching from home. It was a total lovefest among the musical elite with everyone congratulating one another.

Chrissy live-tweeted from home

In case you didn’t notice, Chrissy Teigen and her husband (we want to say, John Legend?) didn’t make it to the Grammys this year. Fortunately for all of us, Chrissy live-tweeted the event and gave a “not going to the Grammys” beauty tutorial on her Instagram story (she’s wearing a towel from Bed Bath and Beyond this year). In short: “it is lit.”
