Selena Gomez reportedly receiving treatment after ‘emotional breakdown’

There’s no doubt Selena Gomez has had her fair share of medical scares and it seems like the poor star is in the midst of another one. TMZ reported Wednesday that the songstress is currently receiving mental health treatment after suffering what sources called an “emotional breakdown.”

The report says Gomez was hospitalized at the end of September when she was “despondent and emotional over an alarmingly low white blood cell count in the wake of her kidney transplant.” She was released within a few days, but readmitted last week when her white blood cell count did not go up. It was this second trip and her doctors’ insistence that she stay at the hospital that led to the alleged episode.

According to the sources, Gomez “freaked out” and had “a meltdown” during which she tried to rip IVs out of her arm and leave the hospital. She is now reportedly at a psychiatric facility for dialectical behaviour therapy, which she has received in the past.

The low white blood cell count is likely a complication from the kidney transplant the singer underwent last year as part of her battle with lupus. gomez has been open about both her physical and mental health, and just last month, announced she would be taking some time away from social media for her own well-being.

Cardi B and DJ Snake – who collaborated on the new single “Taki Taki” with Gomez – appeared to confirm the reports by publicly posting their support for Selena on their Instagram stories. Cardi shared a picture of the singer with the text overlay, “YOU ARE AMAZING” and DJ Snake tagged Selena and wrote, “Get well soon Queen, prayers are sending.”

Another celebrity friend feeling for the star might be Justin Bieber. Though he hasn’t spoken out about his ex recently, Bieber was spotted at his church shortly after the news broke without wife-or-fiancée Hailey Baldwin (who knows at this point?) and was visibly “distraught.” The singer was seen receiving hugs and encouragement as he left the church.

Fans have been posting their support for the singer online and have started a conversation about the connection between young celebrities and mental illness. Demi Lovato has been receiving addiction treatment since an alleged overdose in the summer; Ariana Grande has been open about her struggles with anxiety; and Mac Miller struggled with addiction for years before his fatal overdose in September.
