Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have called it quits after more than two years together, the couple confirms.

"I'm forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for," Gigi posted on Twitter Tuesday.

"Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect for Gigi as a woman and a friend," Zayn tweeted. "She has such an incredible soul. I'm grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time, we wish this news could have come from us first."

News of the supermodel and the musician parting ways was broken earlier in the day by the U.K.'s Sun newspaper.

“They are no longer a couple but they do remain close and are supportive of each other," an unnamed source told the publication. “The reality is that they’ve grown apart, having been together for a long time."

The couple had been together since late 2015, with rumours of an initial breakup surfacing in June 2016. Soon after, however, they were back publicly embracing each other and sharing periodic lovey Instagram posts. Gigi famously appeared in Zayn's Pillowtalk music video, the now 25-year-old musician's first single after departing One Direction.

“We connected really quickly. We have kind of the same sense of humour and started sharing videos," Gigi, 22, told Ellen DeGeneres in February 2017 of their initial spark after meeting at a birthday party.

But alas, it's been two months since Gigi shared these cuddly snaps on her Instagram account, wishing Zayn a happy birthday and writin gshe was proud to be by his side.

... and even longer since Zayn's publicly mentioned the relationship. Instead, Tuesday he shared this shirtless snap with the caption, "When Life throws you lemons , catch em so they don’t hit you in the f*cking face."

Good strategy.

Zayn was pictured sitting front row for Tom Ford's NYFW show in February, but that was one show Gigi wasn't actually walking in.

“This is definitely the end for now, but this isn’t a bitter split and they both have respect for each other," The Sun's source says. “It’s a mutual decision so no one has completely ruled out a reunion in the future, but for now that’s not where their heads are at.”

Prior to dating each other, Zayn was engaged to Little Mix member Perrie Edwards, while Gigi had dated Joe Jonas.
